WELCOME TO BREIT’S

Located at the corner of North 5th Street and Elizabeth in KCK, Breit’s reflects the spirit of Strawberry Hill—a welcoming, diverse community of hardworking folks who love gathering for good times, tasty food, and a few cold beers.

Whether it’s your first visit or you’ve been a regular forever, you’ll feel right at home at Breit’s. The free juke box is always playing a song you know, the staff treats every customer like family, and friendships form over perfectly poured Guinness and great sandwiches.

Over the years, Breit’s has been the go-to spot in KCK for countless celebrations—from community fundraisers, pub crawls, birthdays and retirements to engagements, bachelorettes and even a few weddings. And of course, THE BEST St. Paddy’s Day parties in all of Kansas City!

MEET THE OWNERS

In 2021 John McClelland and his business partner, Johnathan Griffiths, Googled “best sandwich near me” and stumbled upon a gem of a pub in Strawberry Hill. They quickly became regular customers at Breit’s and friends of Bobby’s. When Bob mentioned the idea of retiring, they were all ears. With their wives, Katrina McClelland and Erin Griffiths, they all decided they’d love to continue the tradition Bobby and his family had cultivated for over two decades. And shortly thereafter the foursome became the proud new owners of Breit’s.

But it wasn’t without a catch. They would only buy the bar if longtime manager Stephenie Stewart would agree to be their partner and GM. With Steph on board, they bought Breit’s in December of 2023. And while you may notice some small changes– new seats, exposed brick and the (super cool!) repurposed barnwood flooring, Breit’s still is and always will be the same neighborhood pub where you walk in a stranger and leave as part of the family.

HISTORY

If you’ve ever been to Strawberry Hill, you’ve likely met a Breitenstein—the name that started it all. In 1999 Bob Breitenstein had a decision to make: move to Houston with his company, or take his severance and open a bar, a longtime dream of his. He chose the latter, and in 2002—after a lot of love and elbow grease—he and his wife Linda opened what would become one of KCK’s most beloved pubs, Breit’s Stein & Deli. Formerly a pool hall that had sat vacant for 32 years, the Breitensteins gave the vacant building new life and gave the community a favorite new sandwich spot.  Bobby “officially” retired from the bar biz when he sold to the current owners in 2023, but you can still catch him slinging a few drinks behind the bar every Tuesday.
